Well once again the pc gamer could be getting bent over and royally screwed.
DICE stated previously, to the pc community "we have got your back" it was a dig at Infinity Ward about the dropping of dedicated server support for MW2. They stated there next offering would have proper dedicated servers etc, PC gamers would be getting a "true PC version"
Well its finally come out.. the game may have dedicated servers (of sorts), but does away with some of the other basics of pc gaming instead
No console No public dedicated server files (this is a rather big deal) No mod tools
and more
as a pc gamer we apparently don't even deserve the sound quality of there console versions of the game,
While this does not bode well for there current development project the implications of what they are doing spread to a certain other game they are developing using the same game engine, yes thats right Medal of Honor.
Could this mean a "true PC version" in reality means half assed dedicated server support and the ability to lean.... (BTW i think you wont have the option to go prone either apparently)
Also on an anti cheat note, you will notice the game has Punkbuster, love it or hate it (I'm personally of the latter, loosing key packets, kicked for unknown violation, disallowed program/drivers etc) it has done an ok job of keeping our servers clean. now realise that 95% of the cheaters we caught or have been removed from our server were caught due to PBBans streaming and not actually Punkbuster itself and that there will be no streaming support int he game for pbbans to use, it kind of makes you wonder how effective the anti cheat will be.
I'm sorry to say the future of PC gaming is looking bleaker by the minute
starting to look about standard coding for games now that we are screwed, least from looking at this thou we will still be able to play this as a clan game even thou we may miss somethings we would prefer to have.
i think thou that now we as a clan are going to start having to except games now being coded differently and just pick what we play and what games are good for the clan or i only see pc based clans folding in the future, with the best will in the world no matter how well clans got on if they dont have new games to play they will in time get bored and start to disband.
so i think for the time being just be aware of what is coming out and play the games best suited to clan gaming and of course what members enjoy playing.
To be honest no more pc games is probably better than half assed chucked together shite.
I personally would rather give up than play stuff that i have no interest in or don't enjoy playing, the simple reality is new games have driven a wedge between the clan in the past and nearly caused the clan to disband anyway, this could be enough to finish it off. although you can look on the fact that this clan has only ever seriously played to games since its inception 4 years ago and one of those games most of us played for years before. I still have a bad taste in my mouth after paying for the last MoH game and wont be paying for this one unless its something very very special.
i know what your saying, im lucky in the fact that i havnt ever really played the MOH games so this new one that is coming i have no idea what to expect that will be a game i will buy if they clan buys,
i am as you all know looking forward to the new battlefield 2 bad company 2 this will be a game i will be buying and just hope it is a good game and would be nice if the clan enjoyed it aswell.
on a side point nvidea ati and microsoft make billions from the pc based gaming community if they start to see a drop in profits from a lack of pc based gaming i would expect them to either start filling the gaps themselfs or to atleast start to put pressure on the game producing companys to start taking us into account.
personally i am not a serious gamer,i prefer the company i play with so i am happy to go along with whatever game the clan agrees on{or majority}.they are a good bunch of guys and we should not let anything split us up.
Microsoft have no need to support the pc community there gaming concern is the xbox, they quite simply make profit from every xbox game sold due to licensing where they make zero money from PC games apart from the initial outlay for the windows operating system. Nvidia have already slowed down production of high end cards to increase production of mid to low end cards, Fermi based cards with dx11 will be along within the next 3 months possibly, production costs and manufacturing issues means they will either be overpriced and wont sell or they will sell for very little profit , either way there is little incentive to make high end cards for them at this time. there primary output lately has been with the Ion platform for HTPC and SFF based machines more than anything.
As for bad company 2 i have stated my intentions with that game previously, I don't enjoy or have any interest in fps with vehicles, When it comes to actually playing games I don't care about anything other that fun gameplay, I couldn't care less about so called realism or anything else for that matter (since when was jumping off a 2 storey building and parachuting to safety realistic anyway). Battlefield has never provided fun gameplay for me, I personally wont buy that game or support it in any way shape or form. I'd rather just not play than play something I won't enjoy.
